i tihnk i will get the indi to do it

let me get this straight though - one its dried out and they just pull off this rubber from the drain hole it wont happen again?

Yes, but, I just unblocked my drain pipe, I don't know what would happen if you binned it, I guess its there for a reason, presumably to stop water splashing where it shouldn't, so I would just unblock it and leave it in situ.

is there not a hole they need to fill with water seal or anything?

No, everything should keep dry as long as the drain is unblocked and able to do it's job.

Go for it. I would encourage all 230 owners to take a look.

Hi Guy's the bung causes a restriction and blocks easily with all the muck washed down the bonnet vent that's why the best solution is to pull it out and throw it away :D

I guess I am prepared to inspect it and keep it clean, therefore retaining the drain is not a problem for me. Having inspected it, I would rather leave it in place as mercedes intended.

Every time I wash my car I deliberately flush all storm water drains with copious amounts of water.

First of all no car has a central drain for the heater box, they are all offset to the passenger side on RHD cars and on the same side for LHD cars, and the heater boxes are not handed.

The original purpose of this drain is for the evaporator to let the water escape.

The design of the water baffle on most Mercedes is of a very poor design, this problem cannot happen on a V70 as the air intake as the air intake is in a raised part of the water baffle.

The design of the drain tube is wrong, it is only about 150mm long x 20mm diameter, and it has flaps on the bottom end. Why does it have flaps, maybe to stop any unwanted air coming in, but I doubt it. It could be to stop water from being forced into the car heater box when driving through a flood, but again it is quite high up in the wheel arch liner.

All it takes is 1 leaf in the bottom and the heater box cannot drain as there is insufficient weight of water in the box and pipe, even more that leaf is held down flat by the water almost making a perfect seal.

You do not remove the pipe, you just take a sharp knife and cut the flaps off, and job done.

I am not posting until some problems on the forum have been sorted out, there are so many threads that I could give a good answer to, but not the way things stand. Im will start a thread in the feedback section one day

There are a number of mods you should do... Wheel arches to prevent rust .. Malcolm has produced a very good guide to it in the DIY section. There is also the roof bolts to avoid rattling roof as well as the treatment of the rubber on all the roof parts....

Search the forum well for these...

thanks again - it was done tonight
blocked up and full of water / crap as everyone said

my garage didn't have a dehumidifier - i do 200 mile runs in my car 3 times a week, would pulling back the carpets and turning the heater on full and selecting the feet direction selector be enough to dry it?
was also think of some cat litter in plastic box / silica in a sock to help soak up the moisture - anyone else done anything like this / any thoughts ?

No. In my opinion the whole carpet needs to be lifted so it can be dried properly with a fan heater. Allow at least 24 hours. Here's a photo of mine being dried.
