Get a new lamp, they are perfectly safe to work on as long as they are turned off, there is no problem with the SL to disconnect the rear battery to be double safe. the replacement lamps fit the same as normal bulbs.

When done, if the battery was off, re set the indows with key in 2 Lower windows ans hold switch 10 sec, the up fully and hold switch 10 sec.

Start engine and turn the steering from lock to lock, with the car moving pref:

the fault will be fault coded and can be read out,the fauly component can be bought from any Bosch agent at a fraction of the MB price. it should not cost much to have the code read out.

Yes,it needs plugging into a code reader, All of the components are Bosch with Boch part nu,bers on the rear, and the same as fitted to many other car, it only the lamp its self that is MB.

looking at how these things work, its only 3000 to 4000 volts on these things, they work on the same principle as the back lights on LCD TV and momitors.

When you get the new part, if you care to send the faulty part to me,if I can repair it FOC I will do so and you can have a spare.
