Hi Folks, as you can tell i am new to the Forum.
Just bought a 2003 ML270 cdi Inspiration and have a few questions.

What a brilliant looking motor, All Black inside with the Black Burr wood!! What a machine.

1, Need to install a tow bar, The bumper is all there with a detatchable part to the bumper, Is it possible to have a detatchable Tow bar installed with just one socket inside the bumper? When the Tow Bar is detached and put away will there still be room to put the detatched bumper part back on the vehicle so there is no sign of a tow bar and just all one looking bumper?

2, I have a horrible and annoying rattle coming from the rear door, does anyone have any suggestions?

3, Want to get some chrome, already purchased some side steps, but want to get a chrome A Frame for the front, anyone have any websites that i can look at to buy this sort o gear?

4, Just one last thing. I have read all the reports about this machine the majority of the reports are slating this machine. I dont know what they were talking about!! This is the best 4x4 i have ever driven and as for look of this machine, it must be one of the best Machines ever!!

Thank you for all your advice and guidance i have read on this forum.. please somebody help with the above questions....

Hi Supe,

I've had a rattle or two from the rear door (boot :?: ). One was a loose number plate :!: . Other was curved 'glass' panel between rear and side windows (coming 'unstuck').

Else ensure rear lock is adjusted.

Cheers,

Dieter

Thanks for your help, been looking at it all weekend and i still cant find it. Never owned any type of MB so it will be nice to know what help i will get from the dealer on this matter. As its only a year old this trouble should still be found under the warranty (In my eyes) it will be nice to see what they think!!

Thanks again

Anybody got any website for me to look at where i can buy chrome items for the outside?

ML Inspiration

Hi Supercue
Hope you get on better with your ML than I did with mine. I only kept mine for less than 6months, and I couldnt wait to get shot of it !
I have been slowly selling off the fancy bits that I bought for it.
If you're interested I still have a genuine mercedes dark wood and leather steering wheel almost new and Im looking for £125 + postage for it. Cost of the item when new was over £350
If your interested then drop me a line to ckaye@orielsystems.com and I can send you a pic

Regards
Chris

Thanks for your offer, one of the reason i bought an Inspriation model was to get shot of all the dark wood, The Inspiration model has all Black Burr Wood, so i have to kindly turn your offer down.

Thanks anyway.

Anymore offers please feel free to post them.

Hi Supe,

I assume you've checked there's nothing loose in the two compartments in the hatch back? nor in the two boot side 'pockets'?

Glad to see that two out of three ML owners (me/you v ChrisK) enjoy their ML.

Cheers,

Hi Dieter

Yeah checked out the back compartments out, they all seem ok...Yesterday called the MB Dealer and they booked it to have a look at it FOC, well pleased with the service i got.

I have done over a thousand miles in it so far since last friday and over the moon with it.

Thanks again.

Anymore advice or websites would be welcome.

Well Happy with the ML, travelled over 400 miles just today alone, The journey had a great purpose, To collect all my Stainless steel bars, got, new a frame and side bars.

All 3 inch stainless, looks the business, fitting it all tomorrow, i will take some pics before and after for you all to see!!

Still on the hunt for a rear spare wheel holder, in stainless of course, but still havent even seen one for sale, Can anyone advice me as well if the rear stainless spare wheel holder comes with the inserted brake light wheel cover as standard or do you have to buy this as well, as i havent seen this for sale either.

Also next week having Sat Nav, DVD, Screen, Head unit, rear parking Camera and full privacy glass installed, I have the Mercedes Privacy glass fitted as an option but they dont do the front 2 windows (against the law) So just having them two finished off.

Then thats about done, once finished i will post some before and after pics for you all to have a look.

Just to show there are great things you can do with the ML if you want to!!

Dont you think an ml270 is a bit girly . All you ever see them getting used for is the school run or in the supermarket car park.

Why have a soft 4x4 after all we seldom have any snow .

If you want a four wheel drive car you would be better with a subaru at least you would have performance and road holding not a girly possing wagon.

I think you missed the point 500sl.

I have a BMW 330sports coupe to thrash around in.

The reason for buying this particular 4X4 is that our freelander was getting old (99T) and it was time for a change!!

Perhaps we dont have snow in this country very often but what that has to do with owning a 4X4, i dont really know.

The main reason for me to own a 4X4 is that we tow Quad bikes to the forest to thrash around in.

Also Jet ski's to the beach, You ever tried doing this in a Subaru?

So i think that 35k for this Merc 270cdi Inspiration is very well Justified as its not just to take the kids to school and the missu to do the shopping in, mind you she wouldnt want to drive this, she loves her BMW Z4 too much. Its a working Machine.

Just one last point i would like to make, have a look at the original post it asks 4 questions, your answer relates to none of them!!

So keep your silly comments to yourself!!

Didnt use Specialist-Leisure as i found the items that i wanted so far on ebay, brand new stuff at the fraction of the price.

I have purchased so far, the A Frame and side steps and fitted them myself.

Hello

No one has answered your tow bar question yet so here goes :-

If you want to fit a standard GENUINE fixed towbar to your M then this is a simple one piece item that bolts to a 4 bolt flange on the rear x member. As i say this is fixed so it is not possible to put the cover over this other than removing it every time. This option is far cheaper than the genuine detachable option.
So, the detachable option is best as it is a simple operation to remove the tow hook when not needed. but beware as they list a different towbar for use with the spare wheel on the back door (the hook part is longer I think)

The genuine wiring kit from MB as all mercs are these days comes with a single 15 pin (euro) plug. This combines both charging & lighting circuits in one plug which is quite normal over in europe these days. MB also supply a simple plug in adapor if you wish to convert this to 7 pin trailer lights.
One other thing, dependant on year, the ml's have the wiring loom in place so it is simply a case of plugging in the short loom that comes with the towbar wiring kit and mounting the socket.
Simple as that !!!

hope that helps

Thanks for your help, you seem pretty knowledgable on the ml tow bar!!

I have been in contact with my local towbar place, they wanted to fix a normal one on as they didnt know anything about a detachable one and was saying 4X4 were built to have big towbars on!!

So i gave them the big NO, i didnt want them anywhere near my ML.

Know anymore info on the ml, i would be pleased to hear from ya.

Thanks
