2003 W220 S Class Air Con won't switch on

Got into my car this afternoon and noticed that the "aircon off" light was illuminated on the switch. I pressed the button to turn the light off and thus the aircon on but it will not turn on at all and the lamp stays lit. The aircon also stays off even if I turn the temp right down to the lowest setting and switch to auto.

Any ideas appreciated!

If not I will try and run it into MB Tech or Greenvale next week!

If it is low on gas, then go to kwikfit and get it charged,if it works then only £40 ish, if it does not then no charge

Had it checked at my mates garage tonight Malcolm and all was fine. Could it be a relay possibly?

If I get my mate to drain the AC system, is it an easy job to replace the temp sensor? He could put the gas back afterwards easily enough and thus save me a few quid!

As you say it's the relay. After it has been changed the fault will need to be cleared on the star.The parts is around £50.

On STAR the sensor that has failed will come up.

Correct they just take out the gas and put it back


On my car one of the SAMs lost it and could not activate it, but your car does not have these bugs

Which bugs does my car not have and why not? Why should yours have some bugs and mine doesn't? That isn't fair!!
