Hi all

I recently purchased a 2004 CL500.

It’s my first foray into all things MB and so far it’s going well, I’m so thrilled with my car.

I’m sure this may well have been asked previously but I’m trying to find out what the Brake Fluid capacity is as it needs to be changed?

Also is there any recommendations as to which fluid to use, I‘ve used Motul RBF600 on my previous car and found that to be very good.

Also is a brake fluid service a straight forward thing to do on the CL?

Many thanks.

Mike

It will say on the brake fluid cap what dot number is required , or at least both mine do and they are dot 4+.
Capacity , 1L ? That’s what I used but it depends how much you bleed through on each corner .
I don’t think without MB Star that you can change the fluid in the ABS unit but hey ho .

Get a couple of L if you are doing a full flush. Capacity becomes irrelevant. A good bleed each corner you will be good to go!

Do I need Star to sort out the ABS pump tho?

Think it depends in the car/unit.

on some you can use a power bleeder,
open the outlet pipes from the abs unit and wait till brake fluid is seeping from them (air bubbles often show up first) and then tighten them up, then once abs unit is air-free open and flush the caliper nipples 1 by 1.
