Hi all.

Recently I’ve noticed that the drivers door mirror on my car has bronzed and they’re like spider patterns all over it. I’ve been told it’s the auto dimming feature that has failed on it.

Can anyone recommend a suitable replacement?

I understand that a new replacement is an awful lot of money?

Should I buy just a plain heated mirror or shall I go to a breakers and try and buy an auto dimming one?

Any suggestions or recommendations would be much appreciated.

Many thanks and kindest regards.

I think you will find that any mirror in a breakers will be in the same condition as yours. A new one if available is going to be £200 ish at a guess. If I remember right you can split the back off the mirror itself and clean up the leak and reinstall. I intend to try this on our SL mirror which has suddenly become brown. Failing which I bought a cheap none dimming replacement off eBay which looks ok.

As PeterWS1957 says, you can either clean out the nasty brown leaky dimming compound, change the glass for "non-dimming" or - if you're as lucky as i was - find a good (not brown) dimming glass fitted to a very tatty mirror shell going very cheap. Note that the passenger side mirror does not dim, so a RHS mirror glass from a LHD car will be clear - but the heater will still work

I put non dimming glass in my R230 mirrors. Cheap as chips and worked perfectly. Still heated, less than a tenner IIRC.
