2004 Mercedes CLK240 Convertible- Roof won't open

My 2004 Mercedes CLK240 Convertible roof has suddenly stopped working for the first time. I receive message "please close the boot separator".
The problem is that it is closed with no noticeable obstructions. Any suggestions on home remedies would be really appreciated. Many thanks for reading.

If there is a micro switch that activates when the load cover is in place, it's more than likely this needs replacing or cleaning.

It is possible to close the boot separator and not activate the micro-switch - I'd open the boot separator then activate the switch with your fingers - you can use contact cleaning lubricant and also check the wiring - including checking that the switch is working with a check with a mulitmeter

Thank you. Under closer inspection the Boot separator gas struts are worn and do not have enough power in them to hold the micro switch down.

Are there any videos out there that show how to replace these Gas struts?
