Hello I know this post is old but I’m having the same exact problem. It started this out of no where last night. I drive a 2004 S430. I parked my vehicle and I got out and heard the pump release air as it normally would and this time the pump did not shut off. I heard a loud hiss from the initial air release after I parked it and had turned it off. I happened to hear a small hissing as if the pump was still releasing air which I found odd because the pump is usually off by now. I sat and listened to the air hissing for about 60 seconds and then it stared this clunking pump type of noise that lasted about 30-50 seconds. And then it just stopped. I got in the vehicle and restarted it to see if the airmatic light came on or any other indicator lights and the car had some hesitation to start like it was under a heavy load as well. But no airmatic light or any other dash lights were on. I went and drove it and then came back home and parked it (drove about 5 miles) and parked it and the problem was not there. It hissed out air and the pump shut off. I came out to the car this morning and started it and drove it to the store and then came back home. It did the same exact thing it did last night. Hissed out air (kinda loud) like it normally does and the pump did not shut off it kept a very light hissing from under the hood. Then about 1 min it started that clunking pump type noise( it’s kinda loud btw) so I restarted the car and then turned it off and the compressor pump hissed out air and then shut off as it should. No indication of any sagging on any sides. Car lowers and huggers as it should. I’m slumped. I can’t figure out if I should try and buy a new relay switch and see it that does the trick? It’s almost like the car is not telling the airmatic pump to stop as I should when the car is turned off on occasions. I have parked the car and will not drive it until o fix the issue. Before I tow it into the shop and pray to god I don’t get ripped off I’m hoping maybe it’s a relay switch. Can anyone please advise me? Share any wisdom? Times are tough right now and it would be a blessing to not have to drop $600 - $2000 worst case. Thanks I’m advance

My s430 still hissed out air very lightly after car is turned off and it doesn’t stop. It just keeps hissing very lightly and then it makes a clunking pump type of noise for about 1-2 mins before it eventually stops. The clunking is very loud. It’s almost like my relay switch is not telling the car to stop letting out air after the vehicle has been shut off. Also I heard the clunking while driving the car. It is very loud and actually shakes the vehicle. Any ideas?

My 2004 s430 is making a clunking pump type of noise after my car shuts off and I hear the initial air release. But sometimes it doesn’t shut off. The air still hisses very very lightly until I hear a loud clunking noise coming from the pump area by the passenger side wheel/hood area. Could this be the relay switch and the fuse? It’s almost like instead of the car releasing air like normal it continues to let out air very lightly until the pump starts spazzing out. I also heard this clunking noise while driving. No air matic light on or any check engine light on either.
