I purchased a 2005 e-class CDI two months ago. The brakes (or the braking system) is making a horrible squeaking noise most of the time the brakes are applied. I have been told that this is a problem that is recognized in Germany with the Bosch braking system and that there is a possibility that they may not be able to fix it. Anyone ever heard of this or had this problem? If so how was the problem resolved? Everyone has been great so far but I am very frustrated!!!!! I bought this car after Lexus bought my car back after a year of problem after problem!

Thamks in advance!

Doesn't sound like you're having much luck.....

I cannot comment on the merc brakes, I know my merc soudns a bit funny, but its over 30 yrs old.

Pity about the Lexus also, my dad just bought one and its going fine (IS300)

I can't believe they won't be able to fix it, just that they may still be investigating. At the end of the day, a car is just bits bolted together, so they can replace the offending component, once they know which it is. Squeaking is simply high frequency vibration, so it should be possible to dampen it. The old method is to apply copper ease on the back of the pad and sometimes a shim there too, but I presume if it were that simple, your dealer would have sorted it already - then again you never know.
I have been running a 6 month old E320 CDI for the last week and it did surprise me when the brakes squeaked, but it was an occasional squeal rather than every time.

Had a similar problem on my 2003 E class 270CDI. It felt like a hum and a slight vibration. Originally the local dealer said there was no fault but I persisted and took the car to another dealer who confirmed the vibration/hum/squesing as two separate faults.

One was worn suspension bushes which were replaced under warranty as the car was only 6 months old.

The second problem was due to problem with the hydraulic pump on the SBS system. This is subject to a massive recall on a huge number of MB vehicles. If you call MB Customer Assistance and ask about the recall, they will confirm if your car is affected.

A word of warning I contacted MB about this when I read about the recall in the press 3 months ago and they confirmed that my car was affected and that letters would be going out. I am still waiting for the letter in order to get the remedial work carried out, and I call every few weeks to chase it up. Although MB announced the recall, they are not in any great hurry to resolve this issue.

Thanks to all. Mercedes has admitted the car cannot be fixed (after bringing in a specialist) This problem is known in Germany in the 2005 E-class. I have the CDI. My dealership has not seen this problem. They are going to put me in a 2006 if I can confirm through my German friends that there isn't a known problem with the 2006. Anyone with any knowledge please advise!!

Thanks again. The car is awesome with the exception of the braking noise!!!!!!!

Hi Kristiad

This is very intereseting. You refer to a squeaking noise. I opened a thread the day before you regarding what I call an awful groaning noise coming from my 2005 C Class coupe.

My car is with the dealer now. They have spent four days on it previously and they have it booked in for four this time. As yet they have found no solution.

I am wondering if we have the same problem and are just using different words to describe it. Is yours a definite squeak as opposed to a groaning/creaking noise?
