2005 W211 rust!!!

I saw this today, thought I'd share it. TBH the paint didn't look original, probably explains why it's rusted?

Prime location for stone chips... The steel was galvanised from ~05 but constant stone attack can cause rust.
Alternatively it might have had a replacement wing...

More likely cheap steel, like my CLK, that was also 2005 fully galvanised but still rusted at 4.5 years old. The new paint and rust is probably because it started rusting a long time ago and has been repaired once or twice before, but the rust always returns!

Had a few little bubbles on the outside of my 2005 S211 too, same place. Nothing inside and put it down to wear and tear. All fixed now .

My 2005 W211 estate had some stone chipping on the rear arch lip that had gone through the paint and the plating that looked brown. I just hose them out once a year and apply Dinatrol, seens to work there's been no progression.

I've pretty much concluded that I have to just watch the rear wheel arches get worse and accept all as signs of age, distinction, and 'character'

The thing that really galls me is that it in my area everyone I have asked basically say that they can't fix it, even when I say that I'm not expecting it to be in showroom condition again, I just want the rust stopping so that it doesn't spoil what is otherwise a really nice car that does an excellent job for us. Main response is along the lines of "...oh it will come back, it always does...". Well I know that - I'm looking for improvement not miracles!!

Same happened to my 04 e320. Its no big deal , clean the area up and apply underseal or a thin strip of clear vinyl.

04 was galvernized? It really is a bit of a lottery. How's the w212, w205 etc holding up?

I thought Benz had. 30 year rust warranty or something like that... I confirmed that when at the dealership yesterday... I think it covers rust from within... sorry if you are talking about something else...
My car suddenly deteriorated within the last 3 years... my guess aggressive Merc valeting... and I found this info from another thread on the forum... looked it up online and it’s there with a T&Cs of course

Have you seen the state of the slk 200 wheel arches from around 2000 to 2004 . Mb were caught short using cheap metals that weren't galvanised . In an attempt to win back customers they bit the bullet and started using quality metals. If there is a 30 year anti rust warranty its not been around for long.

It has, the ‘95-02 W210’s had the warranty... just almost impossible to claim on it and most of them have rusted away now unfortunately.

And the newer ones still rust. I have had it on my 2006 SLK and 08/09 ML’s.

MY w220 shows rust in the same place, as mentioned it will always return. All you can do is keep on top of it.

To qualify for a claim you need to have bought on the first Sunday of any month beginning with an A between 11:00 & 11:05 when the wind was blowing in a Northwest direction. Oh and have a FMBSH.

Only if rust can be proved as from inside,is my understanding ? I have some on my 01 cllk rear arches every 2 ,yr I clean it back and paint again.match not perfect but I prefer that to rust .

Must have still used the cheap metal in the vans then as my 2010 Vito is a disaster around the rear wheel arches and parts of sills. small panel at front of rear wheel i stripped back to bare metal last year and found a rusty water mark under the perfect paintwork in the middle of the panel
