Hi folks, looking for a bit of help. I have a 2006 c180 Kompressor. Engine management light came on and I checked the camshaft adjuster magnet plugs. There was oil in both plugs. Car was idling erratically and next morning it wouldn't start. Have replaced both magnets with OEM parts but car is still not starting. Any ideas?
Thanks
Lee

Might be worth checking the large electrical plug to the ECU which is top right of the engine rocker cover as you face the car . It’s a known thing with the magnets leaking that the oil wicks along the inside of the wiring and disrupts the electrics .

Thanks Wighty.
Checked and the oil has wicked into the ECU.

I'm trying to source a replacement ECU now. Is it easy to replace the wiring loom for the ECU or can it be cleaned?

Is the ECU plug and play or will it need to be programmed to the car?

Thanks

That’s above my pay grade buddy . I’ve read that Spray cleaners have been used before , but I’m not sure what damage they can rectify.
Hopefully someone will point you in the right direction.

Oil wicking into ecm, s ANOTHER! Known issue On benz, n maybe others? As a known fault . Relocating ecm, s so oil don't run uphill? And proper sealing and even an escape route for wicking oil does not seem like rocket science for makers

The manufacturers make oil blocker wires which stop this problem but they are a retrofit to be used when the 3 year warranty expires
