2006 sl500 gearbox

Hi there,
I hav been having an issue where after about 10-15 mins of driving, usually quite calm a road driving, the gearbox sticks in 3rd or 4th. The tiptronic box wont register a gear change. I can manually shift in N P R etc. But when I go back to D, it is in the high gear.
When I restart the car the issue rests itself.

Has anyone else encountered an issue like this? I have had a look on older threads, but no joy yet.

Wel I have noticed my car sticks in 4th or 5th most of the time. Basically unless you put your foot down, the V8 engine has so much torque, it doesn't need to go any lower. Mine burbles along at just over 1,000 RPM at 60mph. Give it some beans and see what happens.

Have you considered getting the fault codes read on MB Star at a specialist? Or diy with an icarsoft reader .
Whats the cars mileage , when was the last gearbox oil and filter change , it’s every 40k miles on that box

Mine did this a few years ago, took it into my local Indy and they filled the transmission. It was leaking from an electrical plug. Not had any issues since, so might pay to check the transmission fluid level first. If that's OK best to get what Wighty says and have the codes read.

Id say ,service it box or replace the TCU , sticking gears on merc boxes is usually one or the other from what ive read o here

Don’t service the box until you’ve had the codes read, it’s most likely to be the board, if so you will be doubling up on your labour.
