My belt has failed and I need to replace it . Is it much if a job to change it ? Also where can I get a diagram of the way the belt is routed around the pulleys ?

2.1 w639 without zircon. Just noticed the idler that's attached to the oil filter housing is shot . Does that just unbolt from the housing ?

Is that the earlier OM646 engine (pre 2010 ish)
or the OM651 (later facelift Vito / Viano)?

I missed that in the title.
Yours is the 646.
Sorry I have a diagram for the 651, it may be useful for the tensioner pulley if nowt else.
For that a 17mm socket (star not hex) releases tension. I then use a 4mm drill bit or Allen key to insert and hold the tensioner.

I guess you've found the reason for the failure, but check all other pulleys are free.
They have a plastic cover that prises off. The Torx screw is centre. It'll be trial and error for the size.

This may help, there are others available.
His suggestion that a special tool is needed to release is silly. A socket on a breaker bar is all I've ever used.

I'd also replace the tensioner at the same time as the idler... I waited then had to do the tensioner...

Did you manage to get the size detail off the old belt?
That will be 6PK (followed by the length in mm).

Use Gates as a replacement, cheaper stuff 'aint worth it.
