Over the past few weeks my ML ABS would activate for no apparent reason at low speed and apply the brakes to one of the nearside wheels bringing the vehicle to a complete stop. The warning lights would light on the dashboard, then everything would clear and I could complete my journey.

Yesterday the same happened but the fault did not clear and my ML is now on the driveway unable to be driven anywhere.

I can't get to my local indie garage to have the faults diagnosed, so suggestions please.

Is there a way to disable the ABS system to get moving e.g. pulling a fuse.

I have seen other posts about ABS rings but I don't think my model has these.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

The abs system is a critical safety braking system . You can't disable it and drive round without it . The fault codes generated will be stored in the cars memory . These codes will/may give a clue to the fault .
A scanner like the icarsoft MB2 could reads these and maybe highlight an area for you to work with .
Or call the RAC/AA breakdown to find out the fault

Thanks for your replies guys, but hopefully I have located the problem - the abs ring on one of the front wheel bearings had broken free and was in two pieces when I too the hub to pieces.

I have now replaced the bearing and I am ready to put it all back together but need the suspension strut torque wrench settings - bottom wishbone ball joint nut, steering knuckle ball joint nut and top linkage ball joint nut and the driveshaft nut.

Thank you in advance once again.
