At the end of the day it is an R230 with ABC suspension so will require constant attention, buy an R231 if you want a trouble free modern SL.

Lots and lots and lots of buying advice on SL R230. Probably best that you search rather than asking someone to retype out everything that has already been said many times.

Leaking roofs. Check seals. Check all switches work. Check condition. Check MOT history and SH match. It is a Mercedes, it will be better than most cars. Gearbox oil done at 5 years/70k miles.

It is an SL, it is complex and will require more ££ to look after than a C Class.

Lovely cars and as above... I would just check the rubber/foam block in the boot under the liner for dampness and around roof seals and wheel arches for rust. You can use this to reduce asking costs, because it will be worth it!

If you search the forum you will probably run a mile (I did and quickly moved on to R231 which has run trouble free for 4 years)....

At that age you might just be in headbolt issue territory, find the engine number out and see if it’s in the affected range, you may just be outside it

To get the engine number, visit OpieOils.co.uk and they should provide it once you input the reg.. very useful.

Not sure if it´s true or not, but my friend from MB dealer said that only about 3-5% of affected 63AMGs were really affected with headbolt issue and it´s more likely your car will suffer another issue than headbolts after this mileage.

The rate was likely higher than that but in reality possibly unknown.
The point I was making was that the OP should check to see if his was in the affected range, it may not fail but is a known week point and should be monitored

I agree with you that the rate should be higher, but who knows... Happy owners are much less likely to write on forums than owner with headbolt issue.

If OP will get a car in affected range there are only 2 options. Replace the headbolts or just drive and enjoy the car (like me :) )
