Hi guys, I’m using a lot of oil (1ltr/ 7-10 days).
I’m thinking oil cooler seals maybe? I took some pics, as there are various areas looking oily and was hoping an MB guru on here might be able to shed some light or suggest whether it’s cooler or something else..?

you need to say the mileage for oil used. If you were a busy taxi driver doing 1500 miles a week and it really needs a service, a litre isn't the end of the world. But if you're doing 50 miles u have a big issue.

first steps it is burning it (out of the exhaust) or leaking on the drive / bottom engine cover.
what miles has the vehicle done
what's the service history, when did any one last change the oil and filters?
what visual evidence of burning oil do you have

etc.

Basics, is the washer on the sump decent?
You might laugh but MB Liverpool did an oil change on my 63 and used the old washer which was goosed..

Okay so it’s leaking on driveway. Engine is on 108k and is doing about 350-400 motorway miles a week miles. It is due a service and history was full when I got It in august last year. It’s been an issue since purchase I think though it’s much worse now. There’s no smoke from exhaust except when oil drips on it. Underneath is coated. Never gonna rust
It does have a whistle when pulling away. I assume it’s a split in a boost pipe. On the list of stuff to fix..

The turbo orange seal is not seated correctly in the front of the batwing by the turbo ,
The orange seal where the pcv tube connects to the batwing in front of the turbo is missing ?
Try a new oil filler cap for £10
It’s not the oil cooler seals , they run out of the rear of the engine V behind the turbo

thanks that’s really helpful place to start though I think there’s quite a bit of oil at the back too. I looked briefly the other day when it was on a ramp at kwikfit to check rattle on exhaust at the back

That's why my ML had an oil leak shortly after buying it ... someone at Shrewsbury ****ed up (I've no idea if it's washer or O ring  ... I didn't look))

so, seems like you need to look for a physical leak and do and general service...

might be worth cleaning it thoroughly, let it dry then drive and take a look

I don't think middle of the v oil cooler seal get worse.... I thought they weep a bit and over time makes a mess

Get the covers off and give it a good clean with gunk.
Get the oil topped up, start the car, get your deck chair out with tea and biscuits and look.
From the pics and what you have said too much time has passed and the oil is spread to much to elucidate anything from the pics.
Also as you drive, the warm oil will sspread about making it look much worse.
That said a litre per week is ALOT of oil.
Do your service after you have fixed the leak.
DO not discount the oil filler cap, they can fail.

DO post back and let us know how you got on!

I would be surprised a dripping sump nut would lead to oil being right up there as in the pics, unless the OP is doing serious looping :p

There might be small seepage at the top of the engine but a litre of oil a week is a lot so my money is on the oil cooler seals 100-120k miles is right in the zone for these

I’d guess so but as you say a few drives around the wall of death and hey presto....

More concerning is turbo pix attached. Also what actually is this part. There’s a lot of oil around this and evidence of it spraying splatting around that area? I can see there’s a split in the hose there too. Which i assume is what is causing the whistling sounds.

is the blade in turbo serviceable or that a new turbo? I would have thought it would throw it way out of balance and be making all kinds of noises. Plus where has the piece gone

That impeller is knackered.
Either have yours rebuilt, source an exchange or buy a new turbo I'm afraid.
I've used The Turbo Centre near Wakefield in the past and found them to be very good. No idea if they (or anyone else) will be open.
