Had the car for nearly 9 years - lovely, reliable car. Just recently the door key started to need a second press to unlock the passenger side. This is in the manual and is a security feature to leave the passenger door locked when getting in the car alone. "Pressing Lock' and 'Unlock' simultaneously restores factory setting" - but it doesn't. Tried spare key - same ; new key batteries - the same.
Very soon afterwards (or maybe at the same time) I noticed that the boot unlock went intermittent and quickly failed altogether. Key can't unlock boot, nor driver's door switch, nor boot handle. Only way now to get the boot open is to use the emergency key from the key fob and open it manually. I wouldn't like to do this on a dark night when it's raining.
Any ideas? It's driving me mad.

Thank you

OK, I'll have it checked. Looking at my records I had a new battery in 2018 - wouldn't start - clock went backwards when ignition turned on!
Should last more than six years, but maybe time for a new one anyway. I'll try charging it first.

Thanks Wighty and Ratattak.
