Yes. The title is a bit vague but...
About three months ago I took possession of my wife's old A169. And......I soon noticed a knocking sound from the front of the car.....
Nothing found on initial inspection.
Stripped both suspension legs out, removed springs.
Checked drop links, bottom ball joints, suspension arm bushes, top strut mount. Nothing amiss so far.
Checked anti-roll bar bushes, brake pads and calipers, brake discs and wheel bearings. Still nothing found.
Car went through an MOT. The inspector will find the problem, wont he? They usually do......but......no. Passed, no advisories. I pointed the problem out to him. He mentioned that it may be a problem with a loose piston inside one of the struts. Stripped them out again and checked. All good.
Car has been through two suspension checks at different Halfords depots. They heard the noise but were unable to identify it. So. We start looking at different stuff.
Washer bottle was rattling (grommet underneath had perished). Sorted that, still got the problem.
Bonnet didnt latch properly. Adjusted bump stops, now it closes securely. Still got the noise.
I know its a long shot, but perhaps someone who has had an A-Class might (just might) have had this issue too....?
At first I thought that the noise was coming from the nearside front when driving over imperfections in the road (of which there are many...), but I have also noticed it when the offside front wheel goes over said bumps.
What do we think? It actually more of a.....CLONK....
