Hi All This question has probably been asked a few times but I would like some advice...My B180 had its A service last October mileage 70336 ..its now due the B service but I am overdue by 40 days at the mo..but the service document indicates mileage can be 85836 my mileage at the moment is 78128 so howlong do you think I can safely leave it..I am low mileage user now fully retired..Ive checked the oil its half used..there are no warning lights showing I average 68 mile per gallon on longish runs.another reason Ive held back is because all my previous services have been thru Mercedes Service plans but now due for renewal..they want £984 for 2 services..plus on the last service last September (2021) they indicated front discs and rear discs heavily warn..if they need replacing this time they want another £1000..which is twice what Ive been quoted from other sources..I havnt decided yet what to do which is why I want to hold back as long as possible...I would be very grateful for any advice..thanks...Rodney Smith 31/10/22

Hello and welcome

Servicing is based on time or miles whichever comes up first. I’d switch to a Mercedes Independent specialist and have them service it.

discs & pads are a nice little earner for MB dealers ... they upsell on the basis of safety.

MB told me years ago I needed discs & pads for the front of my car .... the discs are still on, though the pads have been changed.

Corrected.
Had the same scenario wrt to brakes. Went to my indy who couldn't believe the BS.

OP use another garage for non service items. For brakes any garage can do it, but ensure they use quality parts and not the cheapest from a factors.

If it helps, I recently had to book my mum's car in for a service and the only date available was almost three weeks after the due date. When querying this, the MB rep said that it would be ok if within 3 months... I would recommend asking the dealership, just so you have all the information from which to determine the route best for your circumstance... Also, maybe a second opinion on the brakes beforehand, so you can query MB when they suggest any fixes. They usually yield, if any nonsense can be countered...

I'd certainly ask what size the discs were & what the min thickness should be. I reckon they never measure them .... just base it on the unworn lip

I live in Sunbury...someone has recommended Executive performance cars in Feltham...also Pace motors but I need to leave it as long as possible.

As a side, its easy to inspect disks and pads for wear limits.
Pads - less than half total meat showing - replace.
Disks - a nice rusty lip that really snags your finger as you slide it outwards over the lip - replace.

I do low miles with my E350cdi and change the oil biannually having covered typically 6K miles. I wouldn’t wait that long with your mileage and certainly wouldn’t go beyond 10k miles to change the oil.

As regards the discs a second opinion wouldn’t be a bad idea MB typically work on a basis of whether they consider the discs and pads will last another 15k miles (to the next service) and won’t factor in a low mileage user (why would they) there‘s a lot of profit in brakes.

I only fit MB parts as do most MB independents but you will win out on half the labour rate

That's way over kill .... MOT says 1.5mm. Not saying I'd routinely go that thin (though I've been down to a fag paper in the past ) but half the meat is too much.

Is yours manual or auto? If it's auto then it might be due gearbox oil service due to age/ mileage
