I bought a 9 month old demonstration estate just before the new model was coming out. It has been fine but I now notice that in some areas the clear lacquer coating is peeling. Just like sunburnt skin. Also the alloys now have areas of white under the colour finish.

Any suggestions on how to pursue a remedy from MB would be appreciated.

I presume it's fire-opal red, quite a common issue unfortunately, depends upon what kind of warranty you have and if you've been servicing it at Mercedes.

Search “Fire Opal Red” on this forum and you will find a lot of reading. Good luck with persuading Mercedes to correct it, I hope you get a good result.

Hope you get a good outcome. Always of interest these posts about MB red cars, keen to know what MB response is.

Got the wife an A250 (Jupiter red). Tried to convince her for another colour after seeing numerous posts about this peeling issue on Fire opal red. Hopefully the issue is not continued to Jupiter red.

Can't blaim her for putting her foot down though, red is a great colour.

Best of luck getting it sorted

    Hi
I have heard today that Mercedes will repaint the whole car but if I want the plastic items, bumpers and wing mirrors done as well, I have to cover that. So with a range of scratches from supermarket car parks on the doors all covered a good result.

The car was an ex-demo and MB have serviced it several time so that may have helped.

    ^ Good outcome.
This Fire Opal Red issue is costing Mercedes a lot of money.

My brother's C350 estate in red was repainted earlier this year due to paint micro blisters. He had to pay for the bumpers to be done as an extra.
