2013 sat nat w212 anti theft message

Hello,
I needed to change the navigation sistem on my E300. I purchased one and i checked it to be compatible with my car. The radio worked for a few seconds then the anti theft message appeared. I was expecting this to happen. The problem is that when I took the car to a mercedes dealer they told me that their tester could not see my new sistem and there's nothing that they can do.

Has anyone dealt with this kind of problem or knows how to fix it?

Sorry I can't help :( It sound like your local dealer doesn't want to get involved, Where did you buy the new Nav system from? Can they help?

It's a genuine mercedes nav. I bought it form someone who sells parts form his broken mercedes car.

  1. Year, Class and model of car, first four digits of your VIN (LNNN) is the model​
  2. When was the car bought new to you and from​
    1. Mercedes Dealership​
    2. Private Sale​
    3. An Arthur Daley type :)
  3. Manufacturer and description of original Sat Nav​
  4. Manufacturer and description of replacement Sat Nav​
  5. The reason why you needed to change the original​

Location is Romania, so where the replacement came from is anyone’s guess…

It's a 2013 E300 hybrid, bought from a private seller. VIN 2120. It's a UK right side driving mercedes. The sat nav wasn't working when I bought it. The new Nav is from a ebay seller and I collect it in person in London to see if it works.
First picture is the nav from ebay second picture the car's nav.

This is a Comand Head Unit which provides far more functionality than just Sat-Nav and I believe your best chance of any solution will be to contact @Alfie at Comand online who are forum sponsors.

Command systems need marrying to the car.
MB wont get involved because it could be stolen so a liability issue for them.
Wherever you take it be prepared they may ask for proof the original donor car is scrapped.
Time to get friendly with a good indy with statr

As above, contact Comandonline with your full 17 digit Vin# and also the full Vin# of the donor vehicle. Without both the vin# of your car and the donor car its possible the unit is locked

... and I believe they need 'divorcing' from the donor car before they can be used in AN Other vehicle, other wise they're just an expensive door stop

I guess that's all related to the age of the car....

with the eastern European ebay thing a multi billion pound industry many Manu are now making life complex to swap out for a second-hand unit

for 2 years plus BMW have been redeveloping their diagnostic tool to deliberately kill swapped out units - its causing hell in the garages as half the std software updates are keeling over under the additional strain... but they are persevering

they aren't dead dead - but need online special procedure to bring them back to life between authorised dealer and puma support

In the event of an exchange, control unit validation must be carried out before programming.
After programming to I level 20-03-5xx, control unit validation fails and can only be carried out with the help of Technical Support.

Measure / Workaround:

In the event of an exchange, control unit validation must be carried out before programming.
To do this, mark the affected control unit as exchanged and then calculate and carry out the measures plan.

If the certificate check fails (warning), the necessary certificates must be provided by Technical Support.

This necessitates the following steps:
1. Select the "NEXT" button in the warning
2. ISTA generates the required "ValidationRequest_VIN_xxx.json.zip" file and opens a file dialogue to save it.
3. The file must be sent to Technical Support via PuMA or TSARA

Technical Support will send you back a validated version of the file as file type json for the affected vehicle. This is subsequently required by ISTA.


its a shame we can't find any info on the changes Merc do or what iterations of and how frequently they release fixes...
