The only clue anyone would have is getting the car diagnosed by a competent merc indy with the correct diagnostic tool.

thanks for the reply, when you say correct diagnostic tool is there a difference? a local indy near me in S.London said they will connect the car up to the diagnostics.

Diagnostics tools vary alot and are then only as good as the operator.
I have a 15quid blutooth jobby that connects to my phone (which is good only for infotainment). Some other have icarsoft, there are alot of diags, the MB one being Star/Xentry.
Where are you located exactly, someone may have a recommendation of a good merc indy.

Back again, can anyone recommend an OBD2 scanner please, i've seen one on amazon called Foseal FO-01 but i don't know if it will even connect. My amber warning light has reappeared after 2 months and i think it may have something to do with the aircon. On both occasions the air con was on when the warning light came on.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

If you have an Android phone Autel ABP100 works pretty well.

Highly unlikely to be Aircon related.

My wild guess...The aircon is making the fan work at full speed .. Some sensor senses that the fan may give up ...So the ECU displays the EML but only in amber.

thanks for that, what fan are you referring to @mattkh I've just purchased the icarsoft handheld device, so i'll see what fault code it shows up, if that displays a fault code would that code lead me to a specific component or just general area?

In my experience an overheating engine doesn't usually switch on an engine management light.

i think i have to agree with you @Taffy7hfa my limited knowledge of motor vehicle engineering would suggest that the management system is unhappy when the aircon unit has been on for more than 30 minutes, a typical door - door journey in London. On both occasions this light has come on when the aircon unit was running. After the 1st code reset i've driven for nearly 2 months without any issues. As soon as i used the air con unit yesterday on my journey the light came back on! let's see what the readout says when my icarsoft unit arrives.

Afternoon, my new icarsoft arrived today and it worked a treat, could someone please help me make sense of this code. For now i was able to reset it and have been driving around all afternoon without issues.

On this drive around, did you have the aircon ON..?
I didn't no and i'm going to keep it turned off to see if the fault light comes back on. It's the only way i can work out what's going on.

What was the other code?
the other code referred to a historic state, something to do with the Coolant, I recently had the car serviced at Mercedes so i don't really understand the historic code. I know that since 2013 there has been a change in coolant characteristics.

So it appears that online there are many benz owners that have experienced the same fault code as mine P06DA00 and it's related to the Oil pump solenoid valve, my diagnostic tool mentions possible open circuit.
After some more digging the actual wiring harness connector works it's way loose and the replacement item looks like it's been addressed with a slightly different connector assembly.
Anyone else experienced this?
