A couple of new features got enabled on my e350. Not sure how to turn them off.

First of all, in order of most annoying.. after 65mph it starts beeping from the dash. I know the obvious thing would be the speed limiter.. but it's not limiting speed... just beeping past a certain speed and I've been unable to turn it off.

Seemingly coincidentally the 'start/stop' function got enabled. It's no use to us in the county as the only time we stop is at a t-junction to check for oncoming traffic... which there rarely is. So is just annoying.

Can anybody help with these simple problems. Have to turn these things off. Out of curiosity anyone know how they could've been enabled? Our kids play in the car sometimes and neither my wife or I have read the owners manual so we don't know what some of the buttons do.

Any help much appreciated..

First thing I would do is check the condition of the main battery, it should be 12.6V fully charged and no more than 14.8V engine running (charging). MBs don’t like under voltage batteries it leads to all sorts of spurious faults. If the battery is old I’d change it - Varta are OEM not the cheapest but the best never is.

Fair suggestion. But any idea how to deactivate these features?

An old B-Class.
:D :D :D You probably got the Middle East upgrade. All the cars there start beeping at ~120km/h.

So maybe a language setting? If I change it to a different region it might turn off?

It's set to English. I've just looked at the owners manual which is in the computer and it says certain countries do have the warning beep.

What about the stop& go function. Can that be turned on or off by the driver?

Yes, press the button on the dash or centre console every time you start the car

Auto stop/ start is a homologation requirement to meet emissions targets. Can’t be deactivated unless by your finger.

It would be strange if it was the speed warning beep because it's happening at precisely 65mph which is not the same as 120kph.

I don't care that much about the start/stop but it didn't do it until very recently. I thought there was something wrong with the car when it appeared to stall at a junction. I used the key to restart it. But when it happened again I did start to wonder if it was something it was supposed to be doing and sure enough... when deliberately trying to invoke it...

Can't believe nobody knows the answer to the speed bleep though. Surely it can't be the only time this has ever happened? I remember there have been cars I've had in the past from decades ago which could be set to give you a bleep warning at a particular speed so I'm assuming it is the same feature but no idea how to turn it off.

I’ve never heard of a coded-in audible speed warning requirement for any car. I know it can be programmed in the navi in some models to flash up a speed warning, but that’s usually road-speed-limit dependent and not a fixed figure.

There is the winter tyre setting, can’t remember if that’s a beep of a limit?
There probably is some speed warning setting, RTFM or keep pressing buttons ;)
I found the Qibla finder in my W213

Without wishing to appear rude, or state the obvious, but how about a thorough read of the user manual to understand how features work in the car.

That one was certainly a limit on my 212, although one had to tell the car that snow chains/ socks were fitted.

I've found out what the problem was. Rather embarrassing. But will leave it here in the unlikely event it happens to somebody else.

I went for a drive in my BMW and heard the same warning beep coming through the speakers.

What happened is I have another vehicle which has a dodgy speedo so I downloaded a free GPS Speedo app to my mobile phone.

The other vehicle being an old London taxi doesn't actually get to 65mph so never triggered the warning in the app.

The app was also running in the background despite being 'closed' on the phone. To turn off the beeping I had to actually open the app and 'stop trip' and that turned it off.

There were descriptions of warning beeps in the manual but they were all connected to faults and no mention of 65mph. That muddied the waters for me as I was thinking what might be wrong with the car. Just pure coincidence one of the valves failed on one of the taxi tyres so had to put the taxi wheel in the back of the BMW to go to get the valve changed. That's when the penny dropped!

The way our 2yo boy launches my phone around the place, our living room would be beeping all the time!

Glad to hear the issue is resolved for you and even better it was pain & cash free!
