I got a brake pad wear warning around 10 weeks ago days after asking my very good independent to check the brakes at the same time as an MOT. They rechecked and said they were fine but then the warning message appeared at every start up and has now stopped. The car does not come with a jack so I've ordered a tool kit from https://www.kunzmann.de/ who seemed to have the best price for genuine stuff and so I can get the wheels off and check myself. My independent is closed on lockdown so I was contemplating replacing the pads and maybe the discs myself. I have the tools, YouTube and I'm reasonably handy but do you think this is 1) sensible and 2) should I use genuine MB parts and if not what pads and discs would you recommend? I know genuine MB is much more expensive but are they much better? In the past I have used Euro Car Parts for our last Merc and our Beetle and Polo - is there a better source for parts?
I have paid for a MB service plan to cover all the essential MB stuff and to maintain a full service record and Mobilo and just before the A7 service I had booked, which includes a transmission fluid/filter change, Tonbridge MB also closed on lockdown. Does anyone know of another good MB specialist independent in Kent who could do the brakes and other routine stuff - Thank you
