2017 CLS 350D Starter Motor?

My CLS won't start!
I stopped after a lengthy journey, tried to restart after a brief stop and the engine won't start.
All lights come on, but the key doesn't fire the engine. There's not cranking sound just dead.
Battery is OK, plenty of fuel.
AA came, tried jump start - still nothing.
He thinks starter motor is shot, so towed to a garage.
Any thoughts?

Does the ignition suck the key in ?

Not common for Merc starter motors to fail. Personally I would doubt thats the issue.

Did the AA man read the codes? take the car to a merc indy?

Thats the first port of call.

I've now been told that the issue is with the steering lock. Apparently it has to be sent away to be repaired and reprogrammed, which will take 7 to 10 days.
Not good news as I'm 120 miles from home and I go on holiday next week!

Just order a new one, it will be with you inside 3 days.
