GLA 220 4matic 2017
Hi, new to the group and hoping you can help.

I bought a 2017 a year ago from a main dealer - it’s a GLA 220 4matic. Almost immediately I noticed a problem under hard acceleration; almost feels like you’ve hit a rev limiter and just sits at a low speed for several seconds, with a nasty judder, before it suddenly picks up.

It’s not a constant problem; maybe once a week, but throws up no fault codes when it goes back to the dealer. It’s spent more time in the garage than with me, and still does it - anyone had this? Anyone know the solution?

Automatic or manual?

If auto, possibly a gear change fault? If the box does not behave properly the engine will do weird things

It’s an auto - the dealer has run an update on the gearbox which seems to have made the problem worse!

I'd start by taking it to an independent specialist rather than the main dealer. If they dont get codes, then getting them to find the issue is going to be hard.

Ultimately, if it can only be reproduced once every 100's of miles, then somebody is going to have to drive it that long, or wait until it gets worse.

This is what I’ve been planning to do, but any problems the independent finds my dealer has already said they won’t fund. I resent spending money on a car that cost me a lot of money, and has never run right.

Are you talking about a Mercedes-Benz main dealer?

If you bought the car within the last 3 months and it's a main dealer, I'd give it back to them and tell them to sort it or accept it back as a rejected vehicle.

OP says he bought it a year ago from main dealer.

So they did! If there is a warranty still valid with main dealer, then they are the only one who can fix it (at no cost to the OP). So they will either need to fight the dealer, or pay to take it elsewhere.

Lots of issues with the 4matic diffs causing power problems with judders and noises. A few TIPs docs about them. We have done 2 this year where we have had to replace the diffs.

The only way to diagnose the problem is to drive it with a tech who can experience the fault with you.
