Which wheels do you have? the 17"'s as standard on the SE or some huge 20" cotton reels with elastic bands on?

I had Dunlops on 17"'s on my E220d, great tyres, comfortable, quiet and great on fuel

That's your problem right there, huge alloys with minimal sidewall that's reinforced so passes on noise and any road imperfections (larger than a grain of rice...) :( directly to you. You can get non-runflat versions for your 19"'s which will improve the ride and noise. Just stay away from concrete motorways.

I have the 20" wheels and honestly they aint too bad but according to build spec they are foam filled? to reduce road noise

As per John above, the Goodyear Asymmetric Tyres are good. I have 4 all round and the difference between the old Continental run flats I had on previously was very noticeable noise wise, they are much quieter.
