My driver recently drove through water on a dual carriageway and the van stopped after cutting out.marshal Mercedes say nothing is covered under the warranty because of water in engine, and a new engine is more than 10k,I explained it was just a puddle in torrential rain but answer is the same.
Does anyone have any idea what my options are I'm stuck at the moment.

Hello and welcome

Insurance claim is your other option.

I can’t see Mercedes fitting a new engine for free because it got drowned. Driving fast through water can cause no end of issues in a modern vehicle.

I reads to me that the engine has stopped due to sucking up water, so likely bent valves, con rods and all sorts of other damage

Even so Matty .
As we stand we're up for a £ 10,000 new engine , so gotta be worth an afternoon oil change , dry out the air box and turbo ,pop the injectors out , lashings of wd 40 and try to spin it over ?

ps.
my old stomping ground , Newark . Prob changed a lot since i was there .

It may be worth it if your handy with spanner’s and could give it a go yourself, the tolerances are so fine these days though and the 651 engine is likely to have chewed its cheese gears too, it’s likely to be a gonner. I possibly wouldn’t go new engine either but 2nd hand from a reputable breaker, certainly would be a much cheaper option.

mots changed a little but I guess it depends on how long ago we’re talking, I lived darn sarf for quite a few years and oddly it hadn’t actually changed that much by the time we came back lol

Hope you find a handy fix hmang but I fear a hydraulicised engine at motorway speeds will prove engine is beyond repair. worth a try to pop injectors out to remove any water in engine to see if it fires.
