Hey all!

I’ve read multiple threads of MBs self locking or locking people out if the keys are inside, however couldn’t narrow any down for non-keyless entry models such as ours..

Received a call this morning from the missus who had unlocked the car, put bags (including keys) in the front passenger door then closed the door, but all doors were locked when she tried all doors. Luckily she was still at home to get the spare, but still a very close call…

Checked the CCTV and sure enough she hadn’t clicked the lock button as indicators didn’t flash… might post the link to the video if people are interested.

Would there be any rhyme or reason to how this would happen? Especially non-keyless?

Thanks!

It can be as simple as accidentally tapping the relevant button on the key! I've had the tailgate of my S204 open a few times when I've put the key in the ignition to start the car and accidentally also activated the tailgate release button on the key! Maybe something in her handbag moved and tripped the key!

Thanks @Chrishazle for the reply! I’d have expected the hazard flash upon accidentally pressing the button - certainly there’s no flash on the CCTV so wouldn’t have thought it was a button push?

@Chrishazle You’re spot on - if you hit the lock button with the doors closed the indicators flash, however if you have a door open and hit lock, the indicators don’t flash and the door is locked when you shut it!

Yes, I suspect the button on the key got pushed by something when she put it in the car with everything else. Even keys in tight trouser pockets have been known to open rear tailgates or boots.

If you lock the car when your in it you can’t open the doors from the inside either :p

Maybe that's the case when you manually lock the car when inside, but both my cars autolock once speed reaches about 10mph - but both front doors can be opened from inside once stopped, we do that all the time!

Yes what I meant was it was locked with the key, even if it’s from inside the car the deadlocks kick in and you can’t get out

Yes, as when I popped into the supermarket quickly, the other day, and must have locked the door out of habit. Katie couldn’t then get out when the alarm went off. I got a panic phone call and, fortunately, was able to unlock it remotely on the Mercedes Me app.

I can imagine you weren’t in good books that evening
