209 CLK REAR BUSH floppyness?

Hello, today I changed the rear shocks and springs in my 2007 A207. All went reasonably well (ran out of time so only did the o/s) but I was surprised how floppy the outer bush was, is this normal? Or will it need changing , I am getting the famous creaking when going over bumps

It’s a balljoint, not a bush. A full range of smooth movement is normal. Any play if you hold both sides and push it in/out and up/down means its worn.

I haven't had to do anything to these on our CLK but I had to change them on a previous BMW... rose bushes I always called them. As Uncle Benz says angular motion is fine... they have a more sluggish resistance when new but soon loosen to the movement you have.

To test them I get a bit of threaded bar with a nut tightened onto the bush each side so you have a few inches leverage each side to check for up/down... front/rear... side to side motion. There is a special tool to remove and replace these... was really expensive 20yrs ago but acceptable Chinese versions do the job at lower prices.
