Thanks Blobcat,but I am still curious what it is designed to do.You had a reply from Mike J,saying he thought the heater only worked at-5deg & with the engine running.
My 124 here in Russia has a Webesto auxiliary heater that switches on at a programed time & it heats the engine & runs the interior fan slowly to heat the car.So on entering the car it is warm,windows de-frosted & engine already heated to 60deg.
If the 210 heater only works when the engine is running I dont see much advantage of having the heater. Maybe if it was arctic conditions it would maybe warm up quicker from bellow -5deg.In one thread you mentioned an increase in MPG,with it switched off. So maybe it does run constant to increase heater/engine temp.

I believe it is there so the car heats up faster. There was another optional auxiliary heater with a time clock so you could set the time for the heater to come on. If you have the owners manual to hand it is in there. (I'm not in my car today so cannot give you the page No's)

Sorry Blobcat. I dont have access to the owners manual. I am in USSR & the manual & car are in UK. The opperation of the switch & heater or what it is designed to do has been bothering me for a few days.
If you have any more info about it I would be gratefull to hear it.
Thanks

Its designed to heat the interior of the car at a preset time. So on a cold morning, the cabin is nice and warm for you before you start the engine.

That is only for the cost option. The standard 'Heater Booster System' on the E320 CDI doesn't have a timer.

From page 148 of the manual;

Your car is supplied with a heater booster system. This gives the car the fastest possible warming of the interior.

The heater booster system switches itself on if the outside temperature is below 8'C and the coolant temperature is below 70'C.

Ah right.

Is it a block heater then - lots of the yanks have cables exiting their blocks, which they plug into the mains. Mind you it can be a bit chilly over there in the north.

yes its a diesel fired heater that fits under the off side front wing, most of them are made by Webestbo.

The heater on my 2001 E320 CDI is electric (direct feed from alternator) but, as I have asked on previous posts, how does one know it is working correctly?

hello

I have a problem with my heater booster system on my 55 reg mercedes sprinter, the light comes on inside when switched on but does not fire up, I have removed what I think is either the fuel pump or solenoid, I am not sure if it is a pump or a solenoid has I have tested it on a car battery and you can not blow air through it, it just clicks.
if any one can help I would be really grateful.......:?
