Hi Guys

I am tempted to find some sportier wheels for the TE but really want to stick with genuine Merc ones (Second hand.) Does anyone have experience as to which other Merc wheels fit the 124 without any modifications? I believe that the 210 and 211 have the same stud pattern, but it is inset/offset etc I am concerned about.

Thanks for any advice!
(My Wife says I can't have the 17" ones off her Avantgarde!!) :(

I use Ankaa 16" wheels off a 211 for my winter set, don't ask me for the offset though, unless you can wait till March for the answer, 215/55 x 16 tyres by the way.
I did have to get a special set of wheel bolts from Murray systems for them though, as the 211 uses 14mm bolts, so you need the correct 12mm bolts.

Other than that, some of the replica's can be very nice and suit the 124, i have a set of 17" AMG replica's (yes i know cheapskate) and also a set of unusual 17" spoked ''parotech'' wheels, but to keep the ride nice i really would recommend a set of 16" if you can find them, and that leaves you with the perfect tyre size for choice and price 205/55 x 16, if the wheel is narrower or 215/55 x 16 if a wider wheel.

One word of warning about Goodyear F1's, in both 225/45 x 17 and 215/55 x 16 sizes these will foul the front arches in most cases on the 124's as the tread is wider than most other makes, pity as the tyres are good once warmed up and round.

I am now running 225/45 x 17 ToyoT1R's all round for summer use with no front fouling at all. No problems at all at the rear, stacks of room, but the front end doesn't allow many errors with getting the size and offsets worked out.

You should not use 211 wheels on a 124 or 210 as the lug bolts are 12mm on the 123 and 210, the 211 uses 14mm bolts. If you use the 14mm holed wheels with 12mm bolts, they are only being held on by a very thin piece of the alloy, and the wheel could easily break away if you clipped a kerb for instance

Murray systems supplied a special bolt for this Malcolm, its got a larger probably 14mm shoulder and a much larger dome than the normal 124 bolts.
They seemed to know exactly what i wanted when i requested them, so i daresay they have supplied for this before.

Judd.

Fascinating reading, thanks-the Murray Systems site is great. So it looks like I can use pretty much any 210 wheels on my 124 without changing the bolts-that it just the answer I was looking for !!
