Anyone else had this?
2003 E220cdi (211) - The brake pipes are very badly corroded. To MB's credit, after an inital automated no, once the dealer spoke to a human, MB have agreed to replace them FOC which, as it's a year out of warranty isn't too bad.
I checked mine (2004) and they are spotless but I suspect a manufacturing fault so there are probably others out there in bad shape too. It should be picked up at the MOT but this one had passed so it seems MOTs aren't always that thorough, especially given that they don't expect to find this issue on a merc of that vintage so probably aren't looking too hard.

I have never managed to work out how one car can go rusty in a certain area, and another stays like new, is it to do with how or what the car is standing on when parked,or where the car is driven.

Where abouts?

The bit I saw was where the pipe is attached to the inner wing behind the front wheel (need full lock on to see). It goes through a bracket and (I think) switches to a flexible pipe. The bracket and the mounting were very rusty. Apparently the pipes themselves are the same and were actually pitted according to the mechanic.

I agree with Malcolm and I don't know the whole history of the car but I believe it's been garaged so in theory should be no worse than mine (allowing for the difference in age that is).

Some cars that are garaged suffer more from rust than those outdoors, some garges are too airtight and hold too much humidity

I think that you are spot on there, coupled with the fact that no damp coarses were used in garages until the late 80's,the cool rising damp air onto a warm car is a perfect recipe for rust.
