If it's like my 2008 C220, underneath the gaiter round the gearstick there is an emergency release, you have to release/remove the gaiter to access it, IIRC you push a button or something down with a pen or similar to release the locking mechanism. Halfords manager had to fo it to my S204 when they made a massive mistake changing the battery (connected second 12V battery to the OBD2 port "to maintain codes"!!) Car would start but gearlever stuck solid in P!
