220 cdi alarm fault

Hi when I try to lock car flashers just keep flashing !!! no audible alarm though ?
Out in Western Isles of Scotland so not easy to get to dealer etc. Local garage plugged in Bosch computer , couldn't find fault and told me just to disconnect battery .
Can anyone suggest possible solution / diagnosis .

I would guess the the alarm siren has packed up, upsetting the system, its under the rear section of the nearside front wheel liner, and it will unplug
