220 cdi Will bump start but starter will not turn.

Hi all,

I am a new proud owner of a 220 cdi 2001.
Got in yesterday with cold hands I put key in turned to cranking position engine stsrted to turn over then key slipped in my hand back to ignition position then onwards the beast will not crank but will bump start.
Not sure if the above is the reason for the problem but strange that this has occured...

Any help would be appreciated as I am fed up parking on hills....

Check the fuses under the bonnet on the right.
