ok - 220 CDi is a lovely engine - not as smooth as the 6 - personally i think the 220 cdi is very nice for a diesel.

I hate the c class coupe. but thats just me. ;)

I assume thats what you are asking?? The W203 coupe C220 CDi is the thing you are after? as in the thing in the picture above?

"I" ... it sure is . i like the coupe but its got to come with the glass roof . i have seen a diesel version , which took my eye , but i know nothing about diesels , as i have alwyas been into petrol . so i thought i would ask . if i was to go the petrol route it would have to be the 230 (coupe) .

I have got a 220cdi with near 100k on the clock, performance is good (but not spine-tingling) it uses no water or oil, does 35-42mpg and is cheap to maintain. Only downside is the noticeable turbolag, which requires you to develop good foresight but that's a small price to pay.
Go for it. 8)

After having a petrol MB and now a diesel, I would be very reluctant to ever get a petrol car again. (OK maybe a CL55AMG!)

I find my C250TD is excellent, performance is outstanding though economy is not that great. The 220CDi has better economy, I have driven a few and the performance is very good, I have never noticed turbo-lag especially not with an auto. Most MB's have an annoying trait of having a slow throttle reaction and this is often blamed on turbo-lag. My only criticism of the 220CDi was the very narrow power band, it seemed to quickly run out of puff.

Personally I think the C-coupe is pig ugly and is an embarrassment to the MB marque. (just my opinion!)
