Although some of you guys suggested I stick to my S reg C250TD sport est, 150k -going well at present!
I am considering a later secondhand 220 or 270CDI est - Questions
a) will I loose out much on mpg
b) will depreciation be about the same
c) do they do these in sport version?
Thanks in advance for your comments
James

assume you are still looking at C-Class (W203)?

there were recently 220 and 270 + Sport Package options. Not sure how long ago they started.

Sport Edition models could have been ordered but so recently as to not have been delivered yet I'm estimating.

C270 now replaced by C320.

Maybe you could get a v gd deal on a new 270.

Had a C270CDi Avantgarde for last couple of years (see other post as now for sale). Best car I've ever owned - motorways gave 50-55mpg @ 80mph so I'd expect this is better than your C250. Borrowed a C220CDi (albeit a Sports Coupe) before I bought the C270 and didn't notice that much difference in performance but put this down to the smaller/lighter Coupe. As per previous post C270 is now replaced so there may be some bargains around.

2005 C270CDi Avantgarde Estate. Bought 2005, sold 2022.
I test drove a brand new (200miles C220) and thought it felt very flat - but this may well have been due to its newness.
I decided to buy a 6mth old car from MB Direct and in Birmingham they had 2 identical cars (Avantgarde Estates), except one was 220 and the other a 270. However the C220 sold before I got there so I went for the C270. It was priced at £2000 more than the 220 (at £27000) but I got it for £23500. The salesman told me the 220 had sold for £23000 (listed at £25000).

I checked the servicing costs and they're exactly the same, there was also minimal difference in the insurance quotes (I went with Liverpool Victoria/Frizzell).

On long (100 mile+) motorway runs my car does 46-48MPG. Shorter journeys (5-10 miles) take it down to 33-35MPG.

What I really like about it (compared to the C220) is that the car seems effortless (just as a Merc should be) whereas I was bit concerned that the C220 might feel somewhat gutless. If I really only paid £500 more for it, then I'm well pleased.

I was a little concerned about the new V6 engine coming out, but my car's new list price would have been £33,000 and there's no way I wanted to go to that. I also need a car very quickly.

Thanks for all your replies -
You seem to confirm my thoughts that 270 will be worth getting.
As I plan to keep my next car along time perhaps the 270 will keep its
value better? Not that many estetes about!
Thanks
James
