My gearbox is making a highpitched noise and I don't want to tackle all those cogs. I have located one from a scrap dealer but for a petrol engined 220, are the ratios the same?  It looks like it will fit - at least the bell housing seems right.

The ratios are exactly the same for the petrol and the diesel boxes.  I would try and get the later five speed manual box which also fits, but might be difficult to find.  The original box on your car was the four speed manual, of course.

I think Don means a petrol 200 as I have never heard of a 220 petrol.
