Hi

Does anyone Know how to remove the passenger door handle of a 230 ce 123?

The lock no longer turns with the key due I suspect to vandalism and I therefore wish to repair or replace it.

I have removed the door card and the 3 screws retaining the handle assy to the door, however the handle will not completely come away from the door due to a rod connecting the lock barrel to the latch assy within the door-I am unable to detach the connecting rod from either the handle/barrel or from the latch assy

Cheers Steve

You only need to loosen the front screw as the whole unit then slides forward and becomes loose. I think you would then normally insert the key and rotate it to disengauge the mechanism. Perhaps with a damaged lock you rotate the whole handle. There is a bar with a flattened end which bridges between the handle on the lock itself. I think I have offered guidance before on the refurbishment of the lock mechanism before so do a search on my name. Chances are that the slides and springs have corroded.contaminated particularly if the flap has been damaged.

230 ce door handle

Hi Tim

Thanks for your message.I can confirm your method's correct, having finally removed the handle, indeed by rotating the handle 180 degrees anti-clockwise,having first removed the door latch screws to enable the handle to pull away from the door.

The barrel is u/s and have ordered a new handle assy with matching barrel to original keys(£89 all in)

Cheers Steve
