Hi Robin

Cannot help with sunroof problem I'm afraid (switch maybe?).

As to the central locking marlarkey. If you have say a window (or sunroof)open and you hold the key to the lock position for 5-10 secs then the system will close all windows (and sunroof) - this is a feature, equally if you then immediately turn and hold at the open position all windows (but not sunroof) will open - not sure if this is a feature but mine has always done it. When I say immediately if you leave a pause of a few mins then it will not do this - seems kinda strange.

This was a feature called comfort locking. If you have chrome strips on your doorhandles then you should have comfort locking.

It seems that yours is working in reverse...best check your wiring I guess.

In terms of the reason why opening only opens immediately after trying to close the window....this is a safety feature in case someone is foolish enough to get stuck, you can quickly undo the window again so they can free themselves. I have found that even with your car fully locked and windows closed, you can open all your windows this way, but you have to hold the key in the locked position for 3 seconds and then immediately hold it in the open position to open all the windows. Your right about the sunroof though, this will only close - not open by this method.

Ahem, sorry chaps,
First the roof should open if not fully closed via the key, for removing stuck children etc, if already closed it will not open for obvious reasons (1cwt of snow on your seat is not a good way to start the day).

The control unit is fitted under the drivers side rear seat base, remove drivers half of base and plastic bits around the hinges, also plastic sill trim, pull up carpet (careful, they tear easily) its under there held in by 2 10mm nuts, 5 multiplugs connected - remove the middle small plugs first, then slide the clips of the big plugs outwards and the plugs will pop out, make sure you slide the correct retainer, otherwise you will release all the wires from the multiplug (nightmare), all plugs will only go back one way.

Strange how it is working arse for elbow as it is the same signal sent to the control unit from the lock whether you lock or open the car (blue/yellow stripe), it is the central lock pump (under other rear seat - same place inside a foam holder) which tells the control unit whether to close or open the windows/roof depending on whether it is locking or unlocking at the time.
The other part of the chain is the 'comfort relay' white unit at the back of the fusebox (6 screws for access) - this seems ok on your car.

Has anyone tinkered with the system when fitting an alarm????.

Oh I forgot to say the relay for the sunroof is attached to the motor/drive unit on the n/side rear, forward of the spare wheel (bit fiddly to get at), Roof may need set up (re sync'd), does it not tilt at all, is the mechanisim ok? does it try to tilt? so many questions.

Yep, I bookmarked the door strap replacement article as well, as my passenger door will not stay open. Another job....... :(

I followed the link for the leather replacement job on the "other" forum, but it was dead. I found it in the end, and was spurred on to ask V12 for a W124 TE interior. I can dream! I could not get the B4 and after pictures to load up in my browser though :(

Best,

Jim
