Perhaps some of the esteemed members of this forum can give me some advice. My wife recently purchased a very second hand 230te 124t, lovely car, but, we have a few electrical problems:rolleyes:.

First presented as no aircon (tested the clutch and no power to it so will not engage)

Blower fans work fine none of the control press switches work but they do illuminate

Thermostat thumb switches do not work and system seems to be on permanant heat (bit of a problem with the ambient temp over 30C)

Fuse 1 is blown and continues to blow when replaced Cig Lighter, switch, heated rear window, glove box lamp, rear window wiper and washer, radio.

I'm thinking short circuit in centrel control panel in the dash(?)

Any suggestions? I have a manual on order and should be able to work it out from there but I'm impatient to fix the thing!!!

THanks

Here is a handy link as to where the bits are, just go to each section as you want it.

There is a valve that will be stuck for the heater and there are details in the DIY section on how to fix that

You have a multi relay for the cigar lighter fuse problems go to 54 in the link the fuse and control boxes

Your duo valve is wide open with no power applied to it, the heat controls send pulses to the valve opening and closing it to regulate the heat.
Sounds like you have no 12v supply to some or all of your heater control system, a damaged/trapped wire, blown fuse, broken wire and poor earth connection are what I would be testing for initialy.
Dont count on the Haynes book of lies for wiring details of the A/C system.
The panel covering the heater controls is held in place by two nuts around the rotary controls and two screws in the bottom edge just above the radio that is just enough in the way to stop you removing said panel without taking the radio out, once it is out the control assembly can be accessed with ease, check its plug connections.
