Can anyone help? Over the weekend I starting experiencing a power loss which I can only equate to that of a slipping clutch on a manual gearbox. Although the engine appears to be running ok, acceleration is not what it should be and to get the car to acclerate at around 50-60 miles an hour, the kick down is the only way to get it. The car seems sluggish when pulling away and there is no accelaration of note although if driven VERY sedately all seems well. If asked I would equate the power loss to be something in the region of 20-25%.

I've had a quick look-see under the bonnet and everything appears to be ok, e.g. no broken pipes, but haven't removed the air filter for a good look around the carb or inlet manifold.

Anybody got any suggestions. They would be appreciated.

Couldn't simply be a loss of hydraulic fluid from the torque converter. Have you checked the level? Remember to check the level with the engine running? It is also quite important to get the right hydraulic oil. Has the oil been replaced recently?

Sorry - Indy = Independant Mercedes specialist. As opposed to a 'stealer' = dealer

Hopefully someone will come back now and recommend an Indy for you that is nearby.

Good luck

Thanks chaps. Will check the level tonight. Last checked it about 4-6 weeks ago. Was ok then and can see no obvious leaks but you never know.

As Norman B says, does anybody know a good 'indy' in the Dartford area.
