hi my dad has a 1987 w124 230te it runs fine except for when you try to start it from cold, then it has to be cranked over alot till it fires,it then runs rough till it warms up.
i reckon its something to do with the cold start bit but havent got any idea how to track the offending component or problem down.
has anyone got any surgestions or ideaS where to start or if it could be something different.
many thanks in advance for any clues, ideas.
all the best

the most common problem is the fuel enrichment device, its a round can with two vacuam pipes and electrical connector fitted on the bulkhead

Just Thinking, are You Sure Its Fitted To The Bulkhead? Only Ask As There Was A Similar Looking Device Tucked Down At The Back Of The Engine Near The Fuel Distribution Pipes (underneith The Air Filter/fuel Injection Unit)
This Had A Electrical Connection And A Vacum Pipe That Linked To The Rocker Cover/airfilter Pipes...could That Be It?
Many Thanks

Yes that's the one,On my 123 it was on the bulk head. you could search the forum as the same thing was dealt with a few weeks ago. they can go faulty two ways. 1 they can stick on and 2 they can stick off. they are not exspensive and I don't think they are servicable. Like all these faults one can only give a guide to the problem, and I do not want you to buy parts that you do not need.

Malcolm

Why not buy the haines Manual for 123 cars it details the whole process,

Hi Malcom
I Have A Haynes Manual For The W124 But It Doesnt Really State Exactly Where It Is,or I Just Got Confused By It All As It Covers So Many Different Models At Once!
I Appricate The Bit About Buying Parts Not Needed, but Ive Got To Start Somewhere, and As There Doesnt Seem To Be Much More To The Cold Start Circuit Then It Would Make Sense To Eliminate This Bit!
Thanks Again For Your Help,i Shall Find The Old Post That You Mention And Take It From There.
