I bought a new distributor cap and rotor arm for my 230TE.

My original cap was attached with a hook arrangement, the one I got from the dealer had screws.

I took it back and the part I require has been discontinued. There was somthing about adapting the newer part but this would involve unbending the hooks and then rebending them into the new cap.

Anybody know anything about this?

our 1989 230TE had a screw fix distributor cap - I wonder what year the changeover was?

I know somebody who is breaking a 4 cylinder 230 engine - do you want me to find out which distributor it has?

I had this problem with Eurocarparts. They told me they didn't stock the spring type anymore. I tried a Merc dealer and they wanted £70 +vat for the cap and rotor arm, so I tried German Swedish and French and they stock them. Got both for ~£20

Cheers Andy, thanks for the offer. I won't be going as far as changing distributors just yet.

The dealers seem to think that you modify the new one to fit somehow. I'll have a look at this after I get my other car back together.

I had been getting a bit of noise on my radio and had a look at the distributor and discovered that the rotor was in bad shape. I thought I may as well change the cap as well.

It seems that my radio interference might related to my brakes though.
