Season Greetings to All.
Yeadonchap here with another niggling problem on my 1991 230TE petrol.
I had the usual problem with fuel leaking through the filler pipe where it enters the tank. I decided to grasp the nettle and bought a replacement tank from Dronsfields, which after a little effort was slotted into place.
The problem is fuel surging up to the spout when you gas up at the filling station. This makes refuelling a long and drawn out process because the pumps cut out once the gun end is submerged in petrol. The tank is a reconditioned model (by some company in Oldham) and I imagine whatever was put in at the factory to combat this problem was removed/damaged when the tank was repaired.
The car runs fine, and there was no problem with the old tank, so I presume all is connected up correctly.
Is there possibly an after market product I can fit to stop this?
As a side issue, I replaced the sender in the top of the tank to rectify an erratic fuel guage, but to no avail. It gets to quarter full on the guage and then the fuel warning light comes on. This means the tank is dry. I got left high and dry but only once.
I saw a thread with somebody experiencing a similar problem. They replaced the intrument cluster to rectify the situation. Should I go down this road?
Any advice on either of these niggles would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Yeadonchap.
