Following on from the recent success (with Andy's help) in sorting out the console illumination - I would like to share my next problem with you in the hope someone can shed some light on it (awful I know).

The scenario is as follows:

1.Rear wash pump does not run when console switch closed.
2.Swap rear wipe switch to pump switch position - pump runs when console switch closed.
3.Initial diagnosis: Duff switch - (confidence level 10).
4.Buy new switch from stealership, fit it, but rear wash pump does not run when console switch closed (Eeek!!).
5.Repeat Step 2 - pump runs when console switch closed.
6.Diagnosis: Duff switch - (confidence level 5).
7.Obtain a replacement switch from stealership, fit but rear wash pump does not run when console switch closed (Double Eeek!!).
8.Repeat Step 2 - pump runs when console switch closed.
9.Diagnosis: Duff switch - (confidence level -1).

Stealership refused to accept that 2 new switches could be faulty - and I have to agree really. Anyone any thoughts/advice on this one?

PS: One bonus to all this is I can now get the console out in about 90 seconds!

230TE REAR WASH

No takers then -??

The only other thing that I was thinking -   might be the cause --- but cannot figure electically speaking ---is that my rear wiper is duff - needs new motor and awaiting funds - and when I move the wipe switch over to the wash position, the wipe sw socket is empty and so linkage with the motor circuit broken. Not explaining very well - but if rear wash is linked logically to rear wipe (like front wash linked to front wipe) - then maybe I didnt have a duff switch after all - Eeek!!

Any advice/opinions welcome.

I can take it that either this is very unusual or I am just unlucky - OR should I just hit the dash with a hammer!;-)

Thanks ant748.

As I said the wiper switch when transposed into the wash switch socket is able to operate the washer so I guess that is a good functional check of the relay.

Yes would be interested in second hand wiper motor - I would be grateful for details you mentioned.

Cheers

230TE REAR WASH

Hail to the forum

Thanks to Ant748 and nick.mercedes@ ntlworld.com I now have a functioning rear wiper motor.

I have posted to close the loop on the thread. I postulated above that the rear wash function may have been inhibited electrically by the duff motor and it appears that is the case.

When I was swapping the switches over, by leaving the wiper switch socket empty I was defeating some circuit or other (I haven't got a wire diagram).

How will I dare show myself in the stealership again;-)

Regards and good night
