In the last few weeks the outside temp display was loosing characters. The display has now completely gone and the same problem is happening to the clock display. Discussions with local MB garage indicates the whole of the instrument cluster has to be replaced at a cost of £500+. Can anyone offer any guidance if this is the case and are there any other options. Many thanks.

And MB told me this wasn't a common fault when mine went!!
When I wanted to get mine fixed, no-one wanted to know, however recently they've started popping up.

I don't know what they charged as I got rid of my E240 in the end. I also found a chap in Wales who was going to take a look.
I also posted a thread on removing the cluster and stripping it down some time ago if you fancy having a go, but I was unable to actually fix it when I tried - you may have better luck though.
