Hi
I've got a problem with my 250CE. I left it into a local garage for a bit of welding to the floor. The welding has been done but now the car won't start. The guy had a look at it and cannot figure out what the problem is, he had another round to help but no joy. Apparently the injectors are not getting any power, does this sound like a relay problem or worse still has the ecu been fried by the MIG? I don't want to leave the car there any longer as the bonnet star has been broken off in his care and I don't trust him.
Thanks in advance.

Do check that the fuel pump runs for a short time when you turn the ignition on.

the pump is located just behind the offside rear wheel. As some work has been done to the floor the fault should be around there.

Thanks Malcolm, I thought you'd be the first to reply. If the fuel pumps runs ok, what would the next check be? Also, I've a 74 280E as a parts car, are the D-jet components from it likely to be compatible?
Cheers

I doubt very much if the injection has gone wrong, slacken off the union where the petrol pipe goes int the fuel distributor turn on to see if petrol runs out first.

Hi
Ask the garage if they disconnected the battery before doing the welding.

Thanks Mattkh, if he didn't disconnect the battery is the ecu is likely to have been trashed? I bought a book from amazon called 'How to tune or modify your fuel injection' which is very good. The diagnosis there seems to point to a faulty ecu. In short, plenty of spark, fuel pump runs ok when the ignition is turned on butthe injectors are not getting any power. The contacts on the distributor have been checked out as OK.

Hi,
I was always told when welding on a car to disconnect the battery otherwise the alternator could fry with fuel injection it could also damage the ECU.
