It could be many things, but here goes....

Fuel pump relay
Crankshaft rotation sensor
EZL module
Fuel pressure (may not be sufficient to open injector pintle valves)

Are the plugs wet with fuel when you have tried to start it? I have tested this kind of thing with Easy Start sprayed into the air intake, but you have to be careful as it's pretty dangerous stuff.

Does it catch and then die when you release the key to the normal 'run' position? If so then I would be pretty sure its your fuel pump relay.

Good Luck,

Richard

Removed distributor (3 allen key bolts). If it's full of green corrosion, replace cap & arm or at least try cleaning them. Dont buy a cheap n cheerfull replacement though, that will be just as bad.

Crazy as it may sound but change or remove the air filter. Mine did the same and I found the filter clogged up.

A Thought. I wonder if someone has been playing with the tick over adjustment and the engine is flooding.

Is the firing order correct?

I *think* that these Mercs can be tow started as the autoboxes also have an oil pump driven by the output shaft, but that is 'from a bloke down the pub' type information! :)

old stale fuel could be your non start problem.

not too expensive to empty the whole system and start again with 100%known fresh fuel.

it's a bother i know, but its one variable out of the equation

then try dry out your cylinders as best you can by cranking the motor with plugs out.

then refit NEW plugs.
if you wetted the old plugs with fuel the insulators may be breaking down.
drying out is hit and miss

GREAT SUCCESS

removed the plugs dried out the cylinders did blead some fuel through but not all. as i said i had basically transferred everything from the 300e with the exception of the coil i had tried another coil i had which i thought was good so just to be sure i put the coil from the 300e on turned the key and it fired on the button.

there is rather a loud rattling coming from the engine bay though im thinking camshaft gonna investigate shortly also discovered theres no back box on the car
LOL

Thanks for all your help guys.
im gonna put all the components on the 300 incl the coil just to check it out

This is only for the record and nothing else,Auto boxes with a rear pump can be tow started, these were mainly deleted back in the late 60's. I see that one or more of the new big MB's has got a rear pump again.

Pleased the car is going :D :D :D :D

Can be tow started. You get a tow and once up to speed, put it in to drive quickly for a moment, then back into neutral and turn the key. Says this in my 190E manual with the 2.6 engine.
